DIY Glow-in-the-Dark Game Party

Summer Party: Glow-in-the-Dark!

Hello everyone! A couple of years ago, my younger sister and I decided to have a joint slumber party during our summer break. But of course I couldn't help myself and decided I wanted the party to have a theme. Summers in the desert are hot and yucky outside, but the nights cool down and are quiet lovely. With this in mind, I thought it would be fun to have a Glow-in-the-Dark party and DIYed all the games for us to enjoy. These crafts are really simple and you can get the supplies at the 99 cent store, which is one of my favorite parts!

You will need to have a TON of glow sticks. We bought around 15 packs of 10. Other then this, we didn't need to buy much else, so 15$ isn't too bad for a party budget! :)

Let’s get started!

List of Materials:

Games:

Glow-in-the-Dark Bowling:

-15 Empty Water Bottles (we had two sets of the game so we had a total of 30 empty water bottles)

-Water (to fill the bottles so they are weighted)

-Heavy Sports Ball (we used Basket Balls, but you can use any type of heavy ball)

-15 Glow Sticks (or 30 if you have two sets of the game)

Glow-in-the-Dark Ring Toss:

-Wooden Peg (again, we had two sets of the game so we needed two) *I got mine from an old chair but if you don't have anything similar to this laying around you can use Paper Towel rolls)

-Cardboard

-Wooden Skewers (only if you are using pegs, if you are using paper towel rolls you won't need these)

-White paper (optional)

-White Paint (optional)

-6 Glow Stick Rings (or 12 if you have two sets) *You can buy glow stick rings already in rings or make them really easily by attaching multiple glow sticks together

Glow-in-the-Dark Pong:

-Long Table

-Ping Pong Balls (if you can find glow in the dark ones then definitely pick them up!)

-Lots of Glow Sticks (at the very least 30)

-30 Plastic Cups (we used ones that are similar to red solo cups but a thinner plastic)

-Water (to fill the cups)

-Construction Paper

-Black Marker

Glow-in-the-Dark Scavenger Hunt:

-Plastic Easter Eggs (we had 30 total)

-Glow Sticks (at least 30) *If you can find mini glow sticks or something small enough to easily place inside an Easter egg, definitely pick that up. You will need to tie the glow sticks in knots to fit them into the eggs and they have a tendency to break.

-Mini Flashlights (optional)

Gift Bags:

-Clear Plastic Treat Bags

-Ribbon

-White Construction Paper

-Hole Puncher

-Scissors

-Candy

-Glow Sticks

How to Assemble Games:

Glow-in-the-Dark Bowling:

First, you will need to set up the "pins" for the game. Fill the water bottles with water, almost to the top of the bottle. When it is almost time to play the game, go ahead and break the glow sticks to start their glow, then place one into each bottle. Make sure to screw on the caps so the water doesn't spill everywhere when the pins are knocked over. Set them up in a triangle (5, 4, 3, 2, 1). We placed to sets at the end of our basket ball court. We also had a lot of wood hanging around, so I used it to create two lanes. Have two basketballs or other sports balls handy.

Glow-in-the-Dark Ring Toss:

First, take the pieces of cardboard and cut them into squares. Then, if you would like, cover them in a colored paper. I used white paper. Then you are going to hot glue the wooden peg or toilet paper roll to the center of the cardboard. If you use a peg, then you might need to use the wooden skewers to keep it standing upright. If you are using the toilet paper roll, it should stay up on its own. Then, you can either cover the peg in a matching paint color that you used on the base or use the same paper to cover it. When it comes time to play the game, break a bunch of glow sticks and tape them onto the peg and base so it is visible. As the "rings", take glow sticks and attach them to each other until them are in a circle shape.

Glow-in-the-Dark Pong:

Fill all the cups with water and place them in a triangle on either side of the tables (5,4,3,2,1). Place a glow stick into each cup and break them before playing the game. Line the long table with glow sticks and break those before playing the game as well. Have a package of ping pong balls at the ready.

Glow-in-the-Dark Scavenger Hunt:

If you are able to find mini or small ring glow sticks, this set up becomes much easier. If you have longer glow sticks, you will need to tie them in knots to fit them inside the plastic eggs. Either way, place all the glow sticks inside the plastic eggs. Have eggs in two opposing colors so it is clear which set belongs to which team. Hand each set off to each team.

How to Play Games:

Glow-in-the-Dark Bowling:

If you have two teams you can play the game with a time limit. Set two minutes on the clock and then have each player roll a ball down the court and try to hit over as many pins as the can. After one roll, it is the next player in lines turn. Continue until the time is up and tally up the number of pins to see which team is the winner. These instructions are one of the many ways you can play this game. Just have fun!

Glow-in-the-Dark Ring Toss:

Just like the bowling, you can give this game a time limit or just play without one. Line up the players and have them toss the glow sticks rings forward in the hope of them landing on the rod. Whichever team has the most ring on the base wins!

Glow-in-the-Dark Pong:

Similar to Beer Pong, but without the drinking, there are two teams on either side of the table. Take turns throwing the ping-pong ball, trying to land it inside the cups. You can follow Beer Pong rules (you can find these many places online) or make up your own rules!

Glow-in-the-Dark Scavenger Hunt:

With 5 mins on the clock, allow one team to enter the space you would like to use for the hunt. I divided our back yard into two sides, and gave each team one side that they must stay on to place the eggs. Then, allow the team to hide their set of eggs on their side only. After they have hidden all their eggs, allow the second team to do the same on their side of the space. If you have a parent around, they can hide all the eggs for both teams. In our case, we didn't have a parent available and I wanted to participate so we needed to hide the eggs this way. Then, at the same time set the teams loose to search for the opposing teams eggs. The first time to collect all the eggs wins!

How to Assemble Gift Bags:

I wanted to thank ever friend for coming to our party, so I made treat bags to give out at the end of the night. Take plastic gift bags and fill them with candy. Place two glow sticks in the bag, sitting straight up. Tie of the bags with white ribbon, and curl the ends with scissors. String a little thank you tag along the ribbon. I made the tag simply from typing up the words, printing them out and cutting them. And there you go, little treat bags to thank your guests for coming to your glow-in-the-dark party!

Thank you so much for reading my post on this amazing Glow-in-the-Dark themed party.

Let me know in the comments section down below if you used any of these tips and if your party was a successful.

Happy Crafting! :)
